New Elizabethans

This hairstyle really stood out to me because it's still in keeping with the elizabethan heart shape but the large plaits in the front adds a modern twist to it which I like
Also this hairstyle caught my attention having the front slightly crimped and in a high quif but what I like about this is that the jewels is only at the side of the head and at the back wich is different to how Elizabethans normally have it just going around the front of the head

Elizabethan hair

In the elizabethan era hair was wore down to represent innocene and purity
Women who wore there hair up were usually married.

Elizabethans had unique hairstyles that required padding or wire to hold a certain shape or even wearing wigs.
Queen Elizabeth made red frizzy hair very fashionable at that time.
Wealthy females would wear jewels or pearls in the hair or a type of small cap made of what looks like lace and jewels at the back of the head

Looking at portraits of elizabethan women really helped inspire me looking at the different shaped hairstyles they had and also hair accessories.

I chose this certain painting
(Portrait of an Unknown Lady
By Marcus Gheeraerts II)

I really like the shape of the hair and that you can see the hair is not straight but has a frizzy texture to it I love the decoration in the hair the purls and jewels adds a sense of wealth and power to her

Heart shaped padding

I started by crimping the whole head so it would be easier to cover the padding and also because the texture looked better

I then separated the hair through the middle from ear to ear and clipped the back
With the front I parted the hair into two and using a small section of hair I applied two small plaits in the middle and pinned to the scalp so the there is something for the padding to grip on to, using bobby pins I pined the padding the plaits and made sure it was stable, with the first half of the head I began covering the padding with hair and pining the hair at the back, I then repeated the same technique with the other half of the hair which gave me an heart Shaped  hair style I really loved.

Crimps and curls

I began by combing and Sectioning the hair and depending on the quality of hair I would set the crimpers to a certain degree of heat, with each section I applied the crimpers for 5 seconds each time moving my way down until I got to the end of the hair, I then slightly combed out the crimps for a frizzy look.
I enjoyed using the crimpers especially as inspiration for my Elizabethan themed hair making straight flat hair more thick and frizzy it becomes much more easier to style and in my opinion looks great.

Curling the hair (for me) was a much more difficult thing to do as the are many different ways of curling the hair to achieve different types of curls with these types of curls I started Sectioning the hair into mediam size parts starting from the ends of the hair I would roll the curlers towards the scalp, after each curl for a better result I would pin the curls to keep in place then remove the pins at the end

Fish tales and buns

I began by separating the hair in two and taking a small piece of hair from one side and adding it above the other and repeating the same technique with the other side of hair again and again until the plait is finished
for my first attempt at a fish tale plait i thought it went ok but still needs work to be neater and more even

The bun was a much more simpler process i started by putting half the hair in a high pony tail then separating that into four even parts slightly backcombing each part i then pinned the ends underneath and with a comb made all sides look evenly spread
